"Unveiling a new site, plus a road trip" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-13 11:11:19 |
As you’ve probably noticed things look a little different around these parts. Now. I know change can be scary but we think this is for the better so hang in there. We at GPS have had this idea of a site redesign in the back of our minds for some time now and today it has become a reality. A quick guide to a few of the changes…
Smaller photo at the top gives us more space to get news and other items higher on the page hopefully making it easier to find what you (the viewer) want.
A revamped video player which allows you to rate videos and view at a larger size. By clicking full view on the player you can watch a larger video as well as leave comments.
Tabs help us fit more in smaller spaces. The blog box on the front page now has working tabs which you can use to either view the latest posts or the latest comments. Down below you can also select tabs for all our football stats including each team’s records.
Special shout-out to our brilliant programming staff for making this happen. Let us know what you think of the new redesign in your comments below.
In a few hours. I (along with some other Gazette personnel) will be hitting the road for Helena. We’ll be in town to cover the AA football championship between Billings Senior and Helena Capital and I’m really excited to see how this one turns out. On the one hand with each passing week. Capital has dominated its opposition and made its one loss to West look more like an statistical anomaly. On the other hand aside from that West game they haven’t had their backs up against the wall this season nor have they been forced to engineer a game-winning drive late in the game two experiences that Senior has had. Each time Senior has had a chance to win the game late they’ve managed to successfully put the game away and emerge victoriously.
But what does tonight hold? I’ll get some videos and thoughts recapping the game later tonight and keep checking (our newly-redesigned) GazPrepSports for updates throughout the night.

Louisiana-Laugh-at-us successfully dashed MTSU's hopes of an at-large bowl bid when they won at Murfreesboro on Saturday.
FAU is flirting with a six-win season but with trips to Florida and Troy upcoming it looks like that might be all they get.
change surface that sixth game isn't a guarantee: Watch out for FIU—who's thirsty for a win after a close loss to ASU and could come out on top this week against La-La.
The trouble is that Navy was in Denton for a football game. Or a basketball game—the jury is still out.
136 points. 1,315 yards and 19 touchdowns later. 26,012 people left Fouts Field needing a cigarette.
In good news for the Sun Belt two SBC players are tied for the national lead in interceptions.
If any publicity is good publicity the Sun Belt got some this week. The Tuesday game between Troy and MTSU should continue that in grand fashion.
The Battle for the Palladium (AKA The World's Biggest Toga Party) will be televised on ESPN2.
Last Week: Win at Western Kentucky 21-17 Troy discovered three things when they visited Bowling Green this week:First when Western went in and beat MTSU at home earlier this year it wasn't a fluke. WKU will be a formidable opponent with a great home-field advantage when they officially join the Sun Belt in 2009. Second. Troy still can't defend the run. Troy has given up an average of 248 yards on the ground in the last two games. Third turnovers are bad. Troy finally figured that out and gave up only one turnover against Western Kentucky.. after giving up 15 in the previous three games.
Last Week: Win at Arkansas State 34-31 Florida Atlantic took advantage of a pair of Arkansas State three-and-outs and held the ball for 11:06 of the fourth quarter to come away with a victory in Jonesboro last week. The Owls trailed by 11 points early in the fourth quarter—their largest deficit in Sun Belt play this year.
With their offense looking anemic. FAU's upcoming game in Gainesville is looking more and more like a potential blowout.
Last Week: Loss vs. Louisiana-Lafayette 34-24MTSU needs to send a thank-you note to head coach Rod Broadway at Grambling State for making Louisiana-Monroe look like a good I-AA team. If they hadn't. ULM would've edged out the suddenly-feeble-looking Blue Raiders for the No. 3 slot this week. MTSU managed to run only 11 plays in the fourth quarter of their loss to the Not-So-Spicy Cajuns in a poor attempt to come back in front of yet another sub-20,000 crowd. This week: at Troy (Tues. Nov 20)
measure Week: Win vs. Grambling State 28-14The good news is that the Warhawks won in lie of a record crowd (30,101) on Saturday. The bad news of course is that they managed to put up just 28 points and win by just 14 against a I-AA teamNot much else is looking up for the Warhawks as they travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium this week for another Alabama vs. SBC showdown. This Week: at Alabama
Last Week: Loss at Florida AtlanticThe Indians failed to snatch a road victory in Boca Raton this week after giving up 14 points in the fourth quarter to the FAU Owls. Yet another team that was on track for seven wins just a few weeks ago is now perilously close to missing out on a roll. This game at home against North Texas would be a great way to close out the last season of existence for "Indian Stadium" before ushering in the school's new nickname next year. This Week: vs. North Texas
Last Week: Win at Middle Tennessee 34-24A jewel on an otherwise unremarkable team. Michael Desormeaux has a few things to be proud of. For starters three games in the 2007 college football toughen have seen a quarterback run and pass for 150 yards. Desormeaux has done it twice. Secondly. Desormeaux is now only the 24th quarterback in NCAA history to run and pass for 1,000 yards in the same year. He also rescued the Cajuns' season from total disaster with a gutsy performance against MTSU last week. Things can only get a lot better or a lot worse this week with a visit to Miami. This week: at Florida International
Last Week: Lost vs. Navy 74-62The game against Navy can be taken two ways. Positively: The offense proved that it can pass at will when given the opportunity.
Giovanni Vizza is going to be a force next season and Casey Fitzgerald has quietly established himself as the fourth most prolific receiver in the nation this year. Negatively: The defense wasn't anything close to I-A caliber and there's no help coming soon.
The convey Green will lose five starting seniors this offseason and their top recruits so far this year are offensive players. This week presents an opportunity to get back on track with a solid road victory. This Week: at Arkansas State
Last Week: BYEAfter a tragic loss to Arkansas State in the waning minutes. FIU has to bounce back this week against the team most likely to give them their first victory in 21 tries. FIU will be at home with their fan(s) pulling for them—and what better way to reward the crowd than with a big W.
As a Blue Raider fan. I never am truly amazed at anything I see at a MTSU football game. I evaluate the 80 plus yard run by the opposing team's QB should be shown to the defense non stop for 24 hours to let them know this isn't acceptable.
instruct Stockstill is a quality guy but there is a lack of depth and a lot of injuries too. I just don't get guys not tackling and playing good fundamenals each and every week. Seems like if you almost beat Virginia you should kill LA-Lafayette.
Finally - one team from the Sun Belt will go to a bowl since virtually the whole SEC is bowl-eligible.
I like your comments. I myself am a proud Trojans fan. I think that the Sun sing has a problem with inconsistency. On some days all of the Sun sing teams look like they belong back in Division I-AA. On other days they blow the doors off their hinges and defeat some big name teams.
Right now the hottest teams within the Sun Belt are Troy. FAU and Arkansas State. But don't forget just a couple of years ago. North Texas was the power house of the Sun sing.
Anyways. I am excited to see how you will rank the Sun Belt next toughen since Troy has to play both LSU and Ohio State this upcoming season.

The Mean Green will lose five starting seniors this offseason and their top recruits so far this year are offensive players. This week presents an opportunity to get back on track with a solid road victory. This Week: at Arkansas State
Last Week: BYEAfter a tragic loss to Arkansas State in the waning minutes. FIU has to bounce back this week against the aggroup most likely to give them their first victory in 21 tries. FIU will be at home with their fan(s) pulling for them—and what better way to reward the crowd than with a big W.
As a Blue Raider fan. I never am truly amazed at anything I see at a MTSU football game. I think the 80 plus yard run by the opposing team's QB should be shown to the defense non stop for 24 hours to let them experience this isn't acceptable.
Coach Stockstill is a quality guy but there is a lack of depth and a lot of injuries too. I just don't get guys not tackling and playing good fundamenals each and every week. Seems like if you almost beat Virginia you should blackball LA-Lafayette.
Finally - one team from the Sun Belt will go to a bowl since virtually the whole SEC is bowl-eligible.
I like your comments. I myself am a proud Trojans fan. I think that the Sun Belt has a problem with inconsistency. On some days all of the Sun Belt teams look like they belong back in Division I-AA. On other days they blow the doors off their hinges and defeat some big name teams.
Right now the hottest teams within the Sun Belt are Troy. FAU and Arkansas State. But don't forget just a couple of years ago. North Texas was the power house of the Sun Belt.
Anyways. I am excited to see how you will be the Sun Belt next season since Troy has to play both LSU and Ohio State this upcoming toughen.

Louisiana-Laugh-at-us successfully dashed MTSU's hopes of an at-large bowl bid when they won at Murfreesboro on Saturday.
FAU is flirting with a six-win season but with trips to Florida and Troy upcoming it looks like that might be all they get.
Even that sixth game isn't a guarantee: Watch out for FIU—who's thirsty for a win after a close loss to ASU and could come out on top this week against La-La.
The trouble is that Navy was in Denton for a football game. Or a basketball game—the jury is still out.
136 points. 1,315 yards and 19 touchdowns later. 26,012 people left Fouts Field needing a cigarette.
In good news for the Sun sing two SBC players are tied for the national lead in interceptions.
If any publicity is good publicity the Sun Belt got some this week. The Tuesday game between Troy and MTSU should continue that in grand fashion.
The Battle for the Palladium (AKA The World's Biggest Toga Party) will be televised on ESPN2.
measure Week: Win at Western Kentucky 21-17 Troy discovered three things when they visited Bowling Green this week:First when Western went in and beat MTSU at home earlier this year it wasn't a fluke.
Last Week: Win at Arkansas State 34-31 Florida Atlantic took advantage of a unify of Arkansas State three-and-outs and held the ball for 11:06 of the fourth quarter to come away with a victory in Jonesboro measure week. The Owls trailed by 11 points early in the fourth quarter—their largest deficit in Sun Belt play this year.
With their offense looking anemic. FAU's upcoming game in Gainesville is looking more and more like a potential blowout.
Last Week: Loss vs. Louisiana-Lafayette 34-24MTSU needs to send a thank-you note to head instruct Rod Broadway at Grambling express for making Louisiana-Monroe look like a good I-AA aggroup. Nov 20)
Last Week: Win vs. Grambling express 28-14The good news is that the Warhawks won in front of a record crowd (30,101) on Saturday. The bad news of course is that they managed to put up just 28 points and win by just 14 against a I-AA teamNot much else is looking up for the Warhawks as they jaunt to Bryant-Denny Stadium this week for another Alabama vs. SBC showdown. This Week: at Alabama
Last Week: Loss at Florida AtlanticThe Indians failed to snatch a road victory in Boca Raton this week after giving up 14 points in the fourth quarter to the FAU Owls. Yet another aggroup that was on track for seven wins just a few weeks ago is now perilously change state to missing out on a bowl. This game at home against North Texas would be a great way to close out the last season of existence for "Indian Stadium" before ushering in the school's new nickname next year. This Week: vs. North Texas

"Football Friday" posted by ~Ray

I’ll be watching my first ever football game in Lincoln Financial handle Saturday as the #23 Penn express Nittany Lions invade the city of brotherly love for a game against the Temple Owls. This is technically a domiciliate game for Temple but I am anxious to see all of the blue and color file into the stands. From what I understand the Blue Band will make an appearance clinching the fact that this is a home-away-from domiciliate game for the Nittany Lions. I am amused by all the Temple fans who are proclaiming that they can beat Penn State in “their” (rented) accommodate. I admit that Anthony Morelli is a weak spot for the offense but I see absolutley nothing in the Temple defense that says they can come close to shutting this team drink for four quarters. I ordain say that I wouldn’t be surprised if Temple actually has a bring about after the first quarter but I don’t see anything that says Penn State won’t return to Happy Valley without a victory. Temple fans your team may be improving but they still can’t compete with a middle of the pack Big Ten team. When the day is done Penn State will return to Happy Valley with as many wins in the Linc as the Philadelphia Eagles have so far this season. Penn express romps.
This will be a pretty bland weekend of college football with the lone game between ranked opponents takes place surprise surprise in the SEC. #18 Auburn travels to #10 Georgia for a 3:30 bet. I desire Auburn’s defense a lot and Georgia always seems to be a step or two below where they could be. I think #10 is a little high but I suppose when everybody thinks the SEC is NFL Jr. I can understand it. Auburn took drink Florida on the road and took LSU to the wire on the road. I’ll predict a victory for the Auburn Tigers for the second game of my Six case for the pass.
On a side note watch the Michigan-Wisconsin bet too. Everybody has pretty much assumed that the Big Ten is setting up for another undefeated Ohio State vs undefeated (in conference play) Michigan for the conference championship. Ohio State has a stingy Illinois at home but they should be able to win that one and Michigan visits Wisconsin. I am disappointed in the Badgers this year. I picked them to win the conference but that was before I realized that they weren’t half the aggroup of a year ago as a lot of populate did I’m sure. Being at home though I want to give them the advantage over the Wolverines. I guess my money would be on the Wolverines but I’m.
